Jean Minguy Memorial RCMP Youth Academy (Career Programs)

ACADEMY DESCRIPTION
Information The RCMP, in partnership with 糖心vlog破解版 Career Programs, have designed this work experience program for students aged 16-18 (as of April 1 (current school year)), who are interested in police sciences or law enforcement as a potential career. It simulates a Police Academy environment in which the students experience a variety of activities that a police cadet would have to complete, but in a condensed format. Students receive instruction and lectures on Law, Criminal Code, Police Defense Tactics, Traffic Studies, Physical Training and a variety of other topics. They will be involved in a great deal of role playing scenarios and will be required to work in a team capacity. Full participation is required to successfully complete the week.

Academy Goals Students who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement will get a very good insight in the training and demands placed on police officers. Students will be personally challenged in their leadership abilities, physical abilities, and mental toughness.

Information SWBA is a full semester leadership program of Conservation Ecology, Community Philanthropy and Cultural Anthropology hosted at Kalamalka Secondary School. SWBA sees meaningful education as a passionate journey towards a purpose-driven life with safer communities and more inclusive societies. SWBA develops academic integrity, however, we believe in education where success is defined beyond grades and exams, and the unknown and failure are embraced as an integral part of the learning experience. We imagine learning spaces that produce results and also generate love, justice & equality 鈥 the core building blocks of a peaceful and sustainable world.

 

The following are some of the OUT OF CLASSROOM adventures and highlights of the SWBA semester:

  • Initiation/Bootcamp at a nearby camp Full week hosting of 鈥淥ut Of Province Kids鈥 with local adventures and leadership retreat (Experiences Canada)
  • Weekly connection with local community agencies 鈥 becoming community builders World-renowned guest speakers through UBC and others

FEES
Information Total cost for the semester including a 5-week field study: $5,200. The actual cost may vary slightly based on airfare, the Canadian dollar, fundraising success and locations of the trip.

 

We fundraise to help finance our projects/field studies. We typically raise between $9,000 – $11,000.

 

Students are encouraged to discuss the Field Study Fee with their parents and come up with a realistic earning and savings plan before they apply for the program. Once students have been accepted into the program, a deposit of $500.00 will be required. This money will be held by 糖心vlog破解版 in trust, on behalf of each student. The remainder of the fees is payable by monthly post-dated checks. Please make cheques out to Kalamalka School and date them for the 1st or 16th of the selected month. We can discuss other payment options upon acceptance.

Information The Beyond Sport Volleyball Academy (BSVA) is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn.听 It teaches excellence in volleyball, with the overriding purpose to create complete student-athletes, preparing them for life beyond sport.

 

BSVA is devoted to the Volleyball Canada Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. LTAD is a framework for optimal training, competition, and recovery schedule for each stage of athletic development. By engaging in the model and its practices we are more likely to produce athletes who reach their full athletic potential.

 

In addition to the technical and tactical volleyball programming, our academy includes modules on clear purpose, inspiring priorities, positive habits, self-confidence, nutrition, coaching, leadership, physical training, recovery, and optimizing our mental approach to both the game and life.

 

Students are immersed with like-minded peers, who are not only driven, but supportive and kind. We place a high priority on our culture as with any successful sports team. Our students participate in multiple group projects, from designing practice plans, leading training sessions, to our Serve It Up Projects to impact our local community.

 

All on-court staff are certified coaches with Volleyball Canada, and Safe-Sport trained. All off-court instruction 鈥 including fitness, strengthening, nutrition, and so on, will be provided by certified professionals.

  • To take students on an intense and remarkable volleyball journey. This includes following the Volleyball Canada LTAD model, with emphasis on the physical, the technical and the tactical elements of the game.

Academy Schedule Volleyball Academy takes place during the first Semester (Sept-Jan). The academy will take place during 2 of the 4 blocks. There are 2 groups (streams) of academy students and the students schedule is based on stream placement.

ACADEMY DESCRIPTION
Information The Dance Academy is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn.听 Students schedule consists of Dance technique classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Dance Fitness.

 

Our Academy Physiotherapist presents on a bi-weekly basis educating the students in common injuries, injury prevention, training for longevity, physiotherapy intervention and to model career pathways for students.

 

The course is supplemented by myDANCEjournal with Sarah Podollan – a weekly in-person check-in with students : Setting goals, Reflection and more. The students will train in the RAD (Royal Academy Of Dance) and also ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) Syllabus in preparation for ballet and contemporary exams. Students perform locally at Christmas time with a festival showcase and also to perform their self choreography work. When available students will attend professional performances at the local theaters which are typically supported with master workshops to enhance training.

Earthquest Academy (vLearn)

Information Earthquest (EQ) is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn. Earthquest is a program of adventure in excellence that empowers participants intellectually, physically, socially, spiritually, and morally within a learning environment that values caring, sharing, compassion, responsibility, accountability, individuality, and creativity. This program has been running since 1981.

 

Students will participate in Earthquest expeditions while taking the semester of school through online learning. During this time, students will participate in 9-10 weeks of EQ expeditions spread throughout the semester while completing online coursework.听 EQ, gives you an entire semester of travel, adventure and independence. The EQ expeditions provide you opportunities to participate in the things you’ve dreamed and heard about doing.

  • Learning about glaciers? Why not take a helicopter and ski down one?
  • Reading about wave patterns? How about surfing one?
  • Studying biological tide zones? Come catch some crab with us.
  • Looking at photos of geological formations and flora and fauna? How about climbing one and seeing them first hand?

Information The High Performers Golf Academy is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn.听 Student-athletes receive professional-level skill instruction and game/career planning to help guide the entire golf pathway. 360掳 skill and game focus areas include Driving, Irons, Chipping, Putting, and mental preparation. Students are fully engaged in golf fitness and nutrition programs, as well as an online golf curriculum.

Golf academy alumni achievements include UBC golf team as well as success in interprovincial golf tournaments.

Academy Goals This program is designed for the aspiring golfer looking to advance their golf game to the next level.
Academy Grades Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11, Grade 12
Academy Location Primary golf training locations are Vernon Golf and Country Club and Hillview Executive Golf Course. In addition, students may visit additional locations as dictated by a group-specific training schedule.
Academy Schedule The academy students train in A & B Block during the second semester. Students will start training indoors until the courses open in April. As the weather permits, they will start training outside.
Coaches Credentials Students are instructed by PGA certified Golf Pros and also work with fully certified Personal Training Specialists and Certified Functional Movement Specialists. Nutrition information and guidance is provided by a PN1 Certified Coach.
Academic Credits & Assessment A credit in Sport Development and 1 other online course (usually but not limited to PE)

Information The OTE Academy prides itself on providing the best skills program value in the North Okanagan. Helping local players stay local and building truly elite hockey skills is the founding principle that drives all of our work.

 

Past academy Athletes have gone on to play with WHL, Vernon Vipers, North Okanagan Knights, The Lakers, UBC, U of C and we’ve even had a student head to Europe to play in a Women’s Pro League.

On-Ice
On-ice programs are designed and executed by experienced instructors (NHL/Jr.) who live in Vernon and care about local hockey. Guest instruction and on-ice assistance are also provided by local NHL/Jr. level players.

We offer a well-balanced mix of hockey-specific skills, athletic literacy, and strength and conditioning. All conducted in a team atmosphere.

 

Online
Online curriculum in Sports Development and usually PE is completed to satisfy Ministry of Ed Credit compliance toward graduation requirements.

Information Thompson Okanagan Football Club (TOFC) Soccer Academy is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn. The Academy offers a formal, high performance training academy for grade 8 to 12 soccer athletes with a commitment to academic and athletic excellence.听 It also participates in the BC Soccer Premier League (the highest level youth soccer league in BC and one of only two high performance leagues in Canada) to increase training opportunities for all levels of player in the Thompson Okanagan Region.

 

TOFC Academy is operated by full time professional coaches.

 

 

Highlights

 

Many of our players are also a part of the TOFC club who compete in the BC soccer premier league and we have had great success at graduating players moving on to University Soccer programs. Connor Glennon is a Vernon boy who participated in the 糖心vlog破解版 Soccer academy through his grade 8 – 11 years and was also a member of the TOFC Club. In his grade 12 year he moved permanently to Vancouver to be a full-time player with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency program.

Academy Goals The Academy鈥檚 goal is to improve player abilities and knowledge of the game of soccer while bringing awareness to the recognized player pathway within BC and Canada. We hope to assist players and their parents to understand how players can progress through the various levels of soccer in BC as established by BC Soccer and Canada Soccer so the players can play at the highest level they aspire to and desire to play at. TOFC Academy focuses on player development with regard to physical, mental, emotional and social pillars. The aim is to assist players in their development at all levels and to help them achieve their personal athletic goals.

Academy Schedule The academy runs September through January at the Vernon Toyota Indoor Sports Centre. Students/Athletes attend the academy for half days, Monday to Friday; the equivalent of two timetable blocks that rotate weekly from morning to afternoon.
Coaches Credentials All of our coaches are Certified Professional Coaches and have had a criminal record check.. All coaches have completed Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders, Respect in the Workplace, Concussion Awareness Training, and Commit to Kids. Coaches have also received AED training as the indoor facility used has an AED on site.
Academic Credits & Assessment Students receive PE credits (4) and a Sports Development course elective credits (4) for taking the academy. The PE and academy courses are supported by 糖心vlog破解版 online learning through vLearn.

School Academy Discounts: Students who have attended the soccer academy through grade 8 and grade 9 will be eligible for a 5% discount of fees in their grade 10 year. – Students who have attended the soccer academy through grade 8, grade 9, grade 10 will be eligible for a 10% discount of fees in their grade 11 year. – Students who have attended the soccer academy through grade 8, grade 9, grade 10, grade 11 will be eligible for a 15% discount of fees in their grade 12 year. – Families who have multiple players attending the academy will be eligible for discounts. A family with 2 or more players attending the school district soccer academy, one player will pay the full fees, each player thereafter will be eligible for a 5% discount of fees.

 

We are also pleased to o铿er one hardship bursary each year for a student within 糖心vlog破解版 to attend the soccer academy. Applications will be emailed out during the semester to those in need.

Information The Alpine Snow Sports Academy is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn.听 Our academy program focuses Alpine Ski race training on the “Train to Train” phase of Long Term Athlete Development. In this phase, training becomes more structured and aimed at improving strength, stamina, speed, skill, and flexibility. Athletes are introduced to physical testing and are encouraged to be more accountable in all areas of physical preparation.

 

 

Highlights

 

Several of our athletes have achieved podium results in the BC Cup and aim to achieve selection to the provincial team. Others simply want to become better skiers and better athletes. Some of our athletes are seeking the skills required to become a ski-pro (coach or instructor).

Academy Goals Our snowsports academy is going into its 8th season. Our athletes have a variety of motivations to be part of the program.

Information The Nordic Snow Sports Academy is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn.听 The Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre offers a high-performance Cross Country ski program for grades 8 to 12. This program caters to athletes with a commitment to academic and athletic excellence within the common high school timetable.

 

Dryland training Sept/October includes roller skiing, running, hiking, biking, strength training, biathlon shooting.

 

Nov-Jan On Snow training includes strength and running maintenance, biathlon shooting, race events (BC cups, Westerns, and National Championships).

Snowsports Academy provides a pathway to BC team squads/teams, National level racing, CIS or NCAA ski teams, and international competition.

Information The Baseball Academy is in partnership with the 糖心vlog破解版 online school vLearn.听 The Baseball Academy focuses on player development, with regard to physical, mental, emotional, and social pillars. The aim is to assist players in their development at all levels and to help them achieve their personal athletic goals. The first half-semester is on-field, focusing on fielding and team play. The second half is in the indoor cage, with an emphasis on hitting and pitching. This program will:

Academy Schedule The Baseball Academy takes place during the Fall Semester and runs weekly through January for high school students in grades 8-12. The academy takes place during A-block at Marshall Fields. On certain days, students stay at school for a study hall session to work on school work (1.5 hours/week).
Coaches Credentials All coaches are provincially certified and have college and/or professional baseball experience. Evan Bailey, head coach AAA Okanagan Athletics will instruct. Additional full-time Athletics/Okanagan College assistant coach. Player to coach ratio <= 6-1, personalized coaching.
Academic Credits & Assessment Students receive base specific course elective credits (4) for taking the academy. The academy course is supported through our online school vLearn.
Student On-boarding All students will undergo an initial onboarding procedure to cover health and safety considerations in the beginning of the academy program.

 

Academy mentors will do regular site visits to support onboarding procedures.

Parent Communication Parents will receive communication on student progress following the regular district reporting schedule.

Insurance Coverage As part of the registration and fees, students are covered under BC Minor Baseball Association (BCMBA) insurance policy. Participants are also required to sign a release of liability form as well.

Selection Process The Academy is open to any student in grades 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. The Academy is open to baseball players, with the main focus being the development of baseball skills. If more than the maximum number of participants enroll, the selection process would involve tryouts in order to get to know each individual player, along with a brief conversation to understand their goals and expectations.

TRANSPORTATION
Information Transportation will be the responsibility of the student and their family.听 In the past, students have arranged to carpool by school.
